Winter Fishing In Florida

Report Date: December 27, 2017

Winter is here after the last few strong cold fronts. It has changed things a bit moving bait away and dirtying up the water putting fish in different spots making catching a hole lot harder.

With the water temps warming back up, the bait has moved back in and put fishing back to catching. The Spanish mackerel bite has been a solid choice to keep the action going. White bait, gotcha plugs, mirror lures and spoons are just a few of the things you can use to catch them.

The trout bite has been getting better every week with some nice fish showing up in the potholes, channels and around the flats - especially on these negative tides we have this time of year. Greenies, 1/4 ounce jig heads with little John or Gulp jerk baits can be a great searching bait. If the grass is not floating on the surface, one of my favorites is a top-water hard bait. Working the walk the dog method and getting to watch the explosion can be addictive.
