Late Cold Fronts
Report Date: May 9, 2018
Late cool fronts have been moving bait and some fish around along with weird breezy north winds. Snook are finally pushing hard on to the beaches for their summertime spawn. White bait, pinfish, grunts have been productive in moving water. The redfish bite has been decent on incoming to high outgoing tides. Live shrimp, cut bait and pilchards on a float or on a 1/4 ounce jig head placed in the mangrove cuts and shadow lines can yield some good bites where you know the reds hang. The trout bite has still been consistent in potholes, channels and drop-offs, especially on low tides. White bait free lined; suspending twitch baits like the MirrOlure, Rapala or Yozuri in the sardine or mullet patterns and using the twitch, twitch, pause retrieve, have been working well. Tarpon are once again late to show up in any numbers - hopefully they'll show soon!
Tight Lines,
